Welcome! I’m TrashPanda, a security lecturer at an Australian university. If you know me in person, come say hi! I don’t mind you knowing who I am, I’m just protecting my anonymity a little bit in this crazy digital world.
This site is a quick solution to a problem I’ve found – I want to provide my insights into education and the cybersecurity+computing spaces, but doing so on social media is far too limiting in the depth I am able to go into, and I’d prefer to be able to vent disjointed from my position as a lecturer. The posts here are reflections of my own personal views, and not of my place of employment. Usually we’ll align pretty well, but occasionally I will want a place to express an opinion that will go against the advice of the university.
I want to get into some professional topics such as “Which degree should I take?” and “Is cybersecurity still a strong subject area to specialise in?” as well as some more personal topics that I’d like to be more candid on, such as “Why is cybersecurity so hostile?”
Feel free to subscribe however you’d like, and come back when there’s a new post! I’m leaving comments disabled for now as I don’t want to moderate the discourse, but please send me an email if you’d like me to elaborate on a position I’ve taken or if you have some constructive criticism.
